Be Aware of Cybercrime in Indianapolis Real Estate

Be Aware of Cybercrime in Indianapolis Real Estate

In today's tech driven industry the need to protect ourselves is more vital than ever.  There are hackers pretending to be Realtors, Lenders, Title Companies etc. attempting to get your funds, among other things.  Be ultra diligent when dealing with funds-confirm with the title company before you wire anything to them.  Some title companies have started sending secure wiring instructions as a preventative action.  Perhaps adopt a "zero" trust mindset when it comes to emails, money, etc.  Always verify wiring instructions over the phone with the title company.  Take quick action if you suspect fraud-contact your bank and law enforcement stat.

We are all at risk for phishing scams, pharming, malware and spoofing and want to be as cautious as possible.  Real Estate is no exception to this and currently there is a lack of federal cybersecurity laws to protect consumers from this.  The real estate industry is prime for this type of attack considering the large amount of money being dealt with.  Cybercriminals are very aware of this so be cautious and verify to protect yourself. Stay vigilant.  Consider cybersecurity insurance and thoroughly understand what it will cover.  That coinciding with vigilance and upgrading identify-management and digital infrastructure will reduce your risk.
