Let’s explore Fountain Square in Indianapolis

Fountain Square is one of Indianapolis’s most historic and vibrant neighborhoods.  It is located southeast of downtown Indy.  Fountain Square owes its name to the public fountain that is installed at the intersection of Virginia Avenue, Prospect Street and Shelby Street in 1889.  It became a beloved gathering point for the surrounding community.  Businesses and entertainment venues thrived in this area.  Fountain Square attracted German, Irish and Italian families, many of whom opened small businesses along Virginia Avenue.  The rise of suburbs after World War II left a decline in the area.

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s artists and entrepreneurs saw the potential in the neighborhood’s historic architecture and cultural arena.  A new fountain was installed in the neighborhood’s central plaza in 2009.  Over the years businesses returned to Fountain Square, including restaurants, coffee shops and galleries.

You now have a choice of an array of restaurants from Maialina which serves Italian cuisine and has 4.5 stars with yelp, Easy Rider Diner which serves a mix of Breakfast and Mexican food, Bluebeard(French Cuisine-and locally sourced ingredients), Loco Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, WildFrye Tap as well as many other options.

There is the Cultural Trail Fountain Square,  The White Rabbit Cabaret(Comedy Shows), The Comedy Sportz Theatre, Action Duckpin Bowling and much more.tain Square is one of Indianapolis’s most historic and vibrant neighborhoods. A very rich history with Fountain Square!
